I’m an inexperienced but aspiring traveler!
My love for travel and sightseeing is quite ironic considering I’ve only been abroad twice! However, this means my bucket list is even bigger than other peoples!
The reason I’ve only been abroad twice is because it was only 1 year ago that I overcame my fear of flying. It wasn’t a fear of extreme heights, nor the worry about safety, but instead a fear of the unknown. I’d never done it before, and I was nervous about what to expect. But with my friends support (and a few sarcastic comments), I survived both flights and loved every minute of the experience!
“I haven’t been everywhere, but its on my list” – Susan Sontag
Since I’ve overcome my fear of flying, I dream to fly all around the world, traveling to new places, trying new foods and exploring famous landmarks!
So, here is my travel bucket list…
1.Auschwitz and Birkenau, Poland
I’ll start with this one, because I feel most passionate about it.
For many years, I’ve learnt about the atrocities that went on in these camps. I’ve seen pictures, documentaries, films and even heard real-life cases. However, I feel nothing is more relatable and real, than actually seeing the camps in person. I know many people who have visited Auschwitz and have said it has filled them with gratitude, hope, and frankly a new perspective on life. I think it’s important to remember those who suffered, and personally pay respects. I also hope Auschwitz and Birkenau will educate me, so I can become more open-minded and have a deeper perspective on life.
These camps are close to a quaint city called Krakow, which has a mythical atmosphere and an essence of sophisticated beauty. To plan my visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau, I’d like to stay in a cute bed & breakfast in this city, to gain the full cultural experience.
2. Rome, Italy
Firstly, the Colosseum is definitely a sight I dream to visit. I adore culture and ancient history, and Rome’s gladiatorial arena is the definitely a must-see for me. It’s one the city’s most iconic and thrilling ancient sight, due to its stunning complexity and decorative structure.
Secondly, I want to make a wish into the Trevi Fountain. I’m a true believer of 11:11 wishes and throwing a coin over my left shoulder… and I couldn’t imagine a more romantic or magical place to do it.
Thirdly, Rome itself is traditional, romantic and quite simply gorgeous. I want to explore new foods, drink rich wine and discover quaint fashion boutiques.
3. The Sphinx and The Great Pyramids of Giza, Cairo, Egypt
Completed around 2560 BCE, these Great Pyramids of Giza are one of the 7 wonders of the world. It is the sheer size and scale of these beauties which I admire. When I go, I want to take a camel ride through the Sahara Desert, to gain the full cultural experience.
4. Taj Mahal, Agra, India
I’m a huge admirer of historical architecture, and the Taj Mahal is like a magical fairy-tale castle. I admire how it took 22 years to build it completely of semi-translucent white marble. It’s glamorous and romantic…after all, it is the Epitome of love. This is because Shah Jahan built this breathtaking monument for his second wife, as a sign of love. I think it the most romantic building in the world. It definitely stands up to its name… The Jewel of India.
5. Cape Town, South Africa
This is quite different to the others, as its not traditional or historical, but it has extraordinary views and picturesque spots. I want to take on the adventure of hiking up Table Mountain, which is undeniably the greatest attraction in Cape Town. This is because the view from the top is breathtaking, and being able to do it would be so rewarding.
Please leave a comment if you’ve ever been to any of these places with your opinions. And I’d also to hear about what your travel bucket list includes!
